CounterPlay

Privacy Policy

This policy explains what the Counterplay app for Windows and the counterplays.com website collect, why, and who else sees it. Counterplay is an independent project and isn't affiliated with Riot Games. Questions and requests: [email protected].

In short

  • The app never asks for your Riot login or password and never reads game memory.
  • Your match history, champion pools and settings stay on your computer. If you turn on sync, they are encrypted before upload.
  • Each time it starts, the app sends us a short ping with an installation ID, the app version and a few usage counts. No summoner names and no picks.
  • The website uses its own statistics and Google Analytics.

What the app collects

Counterplay reads champ select, your profile, rank and recent games from the League client on your computer and keeps them in the app's folder (%APPDATA%\Counterplay).

  • Launch ping. An installation ID, the app version, when it was installed and a few usage counts, such as how many champion pools you have. The ID identifies this copy of the app, not you. Our server uses your IP address to tell your country. We use the ping to count installs and active players.
  • Sync and duo pools. Only if you use them. Your pools, settings and game journal, or your stats for a shared duo pool, are encrypted on your computer before upload. We can't read them.
  • Data and updates. The app downloads statistics, builds and notices from our servers, images from Riot's Data Dragon and updates from GitHub.

What the website collects

  • Statistics. Pages you visit, the site you came from, your browser, country and IP address, and a cookie that recognizes your browser on later visits. Google Analytics collects similar statistics for us.
  • What you send us. Comments and support messages, and a one-time code when you send the download link from your phone to your PC.
  • Your consent. In the EU, the UK, Switzerland, Turkey and Brazil, Google Analytics and our visitor cookie run only after you allow them in the cookie banner. Elsewhere they are on by default. Either way, you can change your choice with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.

Who else processes data

Service providers that run parts of Counterplay for us: our hosting provider and Cloudflare, GitHub, Riot Games (Data Dragon), Google (Analytics), Discord (our community) and our email provider. We don't sell your data.

How long we keep it

Statistics from the app and the website are kept as long as we need them for statistics and security. Sync data that nobody has opened for 90 days may be deleted. Our cookies last up to two years; Google sets its own.

Your choices

  • To remove the app's data from your computer, uninstall Counterplay and delete %APPDATA%\Counterplay.
  • Turn statistics cookies off with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of any page, block or delete cookies in your browser, or use a tracker blocker.
  • To see or delete the data we hold about you, email [email protected]. Include your installation ID (the install.id file in the app folder) so we can find your records.
  • In the EU, the UK and other regions with data protection laws, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Counterplay isn't meant for children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has sent us personal data, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes and contact

We update this page when the app or the site starts handling data differently; the date at the top shows the latest version. Email: [email protected].
