How to beat Fizz

Common role: Mid

A slippery AP assassin who dodges targeted spells with his pole-vault.

What makes Fizz dangerous

Fizz dashes through units with his Q, becomes untargetable during his E pole-vault (dodging turret shots, ults and targeted CC), and sticks a shark-summoning fish on you with his ultimate for burst and a knock-up. He deletes squishies and is very hard to pin down.

How to play against Fizz

• 1Save your key targeted ability — he will pole-vault (E) to dodge it. Wait for E to be on cooldown before you commit your combo or ult.
• 2Dodge his ultimate fish — it's a slow-moving skillshot. If it doesn't stick, his whole burst combo fizzles.
• 3He's melee and squishy. Poke him down before level 6 and zone him from farm; a ranged mid can bully his lane phase hard.
• 4Group with your team — he thrives on isolating a lone carry. With peel and vision he can't get on the target he wants.

  Fizz can move through units and takes a flat amount of reduced damage from all sources

• Q
  Urchin Strike

  Fizz dashes through his target, dealing magic damage and applying on hit effects.

• W
  Seastone Trident

  Fizz's attacks bleed his enemies, dealing magic damage over several seconds. Fizz can empower his next attack to deal bonus damage and empower his further attacks for a short time.

• E
  Playful / Trickster

  Fizz hops into the air, landing gracefully upon his spear and becoming untargetable. From this position, Fizz can either slam the ground or choose to jump again before smashing back down.

  Strong: pole-vault makes him untargetable, dodging targeted spells, ults and turret shots. Weak: on cooldown he has no escape — commit your combo after E is down.

• R
  Chum the Waters

  Fizz tosses a fish in a direction that attaches to any champion that touches it, slowing the target. After a short delay, a shark erupts from the ground, knocking up the target and knocking any nearby enemies aside. All enemies hit are dealt magic damage and slowed.

  Strong: sticks a fish that summons a shark for burst and a knock-up. Weak: it's a slow skillshot — dodge it and his whole combo fizzles.

Itemization

Fizz is AP burst, so magic resist wins: Mercury's Treads plus an MR item (Spirit Visage, Kaenic Rookern), and a Zhonya's Hourglass or QSS to survive his ult stick. Hexdrinker/Maw is great on AD mids into him.
