What makes Sett dangerous
Sett builds a grit shield from damage taken, punches with alternating fists (his W stores and unleashes big true damage), and his ultimate slams a target down and displaces everyone around it. He's a durable frontliner who all-ins your backline and won't die in a straight brawl.
How to play against Sett
- 1Don't feed his W. His stored punch scales with the damage he takes — poking him builds his grit. Trade in bursts, not sustained hits, and disengage before he unloads.
- 2His W true damage is a cone in front — sidestep to his flank and it whiffs.
- 3Kite him — he has no gap-closer besides walking and his ult. Slows, ranged damage and space beat his short reach.
- 4Respect his ult grab: he pulls a carry into your team's damage or displaces your frontline. Watch his positioning before you group tightly.
Weaknesses to exploit
- ✓No mobility — heavily kiteable.
- ✓His stored W is fed by taking damage; short trades starve it.
- ✓Weak ranged threat.
- ✓Grievous Wounds cuts his shield/sustain builds.
Abilities & how to counter them
What each of Sett's abilities does — and how to play around it.
P
Pit GritSett's basic attacks alternate between left and right punch. Right punch is slightly stronger and faster. Sett also hates losing, gaining additional health regeneration based off of his missing health.
Q
Knuckle DownSett's next two attacks deal additional damage based off of the target's max health. Sett also gains Move Speed while moving towards enemy champions.
W
HaymakerSett passively stores damage he takes as Grit. On cast, Sett expends all stored Grit to gain a shield and punch an area, dealing true damage in the center and physical damage on the sides.
Strong: stores damage taken into a big true-damage punch in a frontal cone. Weak: sidestep to his flank to dodge it, and short trades starve the stored damage.
E
FacebreakerSett pulls in all enemies on opposite sides of him, dealing damage and stunning them. If enemies were only on one side, they are slowed instead of stunned.
R
The Show StopperSett carries an enemy champion through the air and slams them into the ground, dealing damage and slowing all enemies near where they land.
Strong: slams a carry down and displaces everyone around it. Weak: watch his positioning before you group — he needs to reach your backline to land it.
Itemization
Sett deals mixed physical and true damage. His true damage ignores armor, so don't rely on stacking it — kite him, use slows and Grievous Wounds against tank-sustain builds, and blow him up only after his grit shield expires.
This guide covers Sett's core kit and playstyle — advice that holds up across patches.
