Ezreal counters (Bot)

Common role: ADC

The best counter to Ezreal in Bot is Yasuo: 57.4% win rate over 1,614 ranked games on patch 26.21.

A safe, poke-heavy marksman who blinks out of every engage.

What makes Ezreal dangerous

Ezreal pokes from max range with skillshot Q (which lowers his cooldowns on hit), blinks away with E, and chunks with a global R. He is hard to catch and out-trades you with mana-efficient poke, scaling into a safe, high-damage carry that never dies.

How to counter Ezreal

• 1Dodge his Q: it is a skillshot, and missing it denies him his cooldown resets.
• 2Punish his E: once it is down he has no escape — that is your all-in window.
• 3He has no attack-speed steroid; his early auto DPS is weak, so pressure him.
• 4Block or dodge his ult when he tries to snipe low targets across the map.

What are Ezreal's weaknesses?

• ✓No steroids — low sustained DPS in the early and mid game.
• ✓Mana-reliant; punish the poke pattern and he goes dry.
• ✓Skillshot-dependent: he does nothing if his Q keeps missing.
• ✓Low base damage — squishy targets that dodge Q trade well into him.

Abilities & how to counter them

What each of Ezreal's abilities does — and how to play around it.

• P
  Rising Spell Force

Ezreal gains increasing Attack Speed each time he successfully hits a spell, stacking up to 5 times.

Strong: stacks attack speed as he lands abilities, ramping his DPS. Weak: the stacks decay — deny his poke and his damage stays low.

• Q
  Mystic Shot

Ezreal fires a damaging bolt of energy which reduces all of his cooldowns slightly if it strikes an enemy unit.

Strong: a low-cooldown poke that refunds all his cooldowns on hit. Weak: a dodgeable skillshot — missing it denies the resets and his tempo.

• W
  Essence Flux

Ezreal fires an orb that sticks to the first champion or objective hit. If Ezreal hits an enemy with the orb, it detonates and deals damage.

Strong: buffs and, when detonated by another hit, adds burst. Weak: does nothing until detonated — dodge the follow-up and it's wasted.

• E
  Arcane Shift

Ezreal teleports to a target nearby location and fires a homing bolt which strikes the nearest enemy unit. Prioritizes enemies stuck with Essence Flux.

Strong: a blink that repositions and procs his passive with a free auto. Weak: long cooldown — once it's down he has no escape, so all-in then.

• R
  Trueshot Barrage

Ezreal winds up before firing a powerful barrage of energy that deals massive damage to each unit it passes through (damage is reduced for minions and non-epic monsters).

Strong: a global barrage that snipes low targets across the map. Weak: slow-travelling and blockable by minions/allies — dodge or body-block it.

Itemization

Engage supports and dive comps punish his immobility once E is down. Health and a hard-engage threat force him to blink defensively and stop poking.
