Zaahen counters (Top)

Common role: Top

The best counter to Zaahen in Top is Warwick: 55.9% win rate over 206 ranked games on patch 26.21.

An unsundered darkin who stacks determination and refuses to die.

What makes Zaahen dangerous

Zaahen stacks Determination with every hit on champions — fully stacked, he gains bonus AD and can REVIVE. His glaive slashes heal him, a recast knocks up, he stabs-and-PULLS with W, dashes with a spin (E), and his ultimate slams down with heavy damage and healing.

How to counter Zaahen

• 1Watch the Determination bar: at full stacks disengage — fighting into the revive is a trap.
• 2Grievous Wounds cuts his triple heal (Q, R, revive value).
• 3Short trades: extended brawls feed his stacks and sustain.
• 4Kite the W pull line — it's his only ranged threat.

What are Zaahen's weaknesses?

• ✓Grievous Wounds guts the sustain identity.
• ✓Stack-dependent: poke without feeding melee hits.
• ✓The revive is readable — save burst for AFTER it.
• ✓No ranged presence: kiting starves him.

Abilities & how to counter them

What each of Zaahen's abilities does — and how to play around it.

• P
  Cultivation of War

Zaahen's attacks and abilities against enemy champions grant him stacks of Determination, gaining bonus Attack Damage per stack. When filled with Determination, Zaahen gains increased Attack Damage and can revive.

Strong: hits on champions stack Determination — full bar grants AD and a REVIVE. Weak: the bar is visible — disengage before he fills it.

• Q
  The Darkin Glaive

Zaahen slashes twice on his next attack, dealing bonus damage and healing himself. Zaahen can recast this ability to have his next attack deal bonus damage and knock up his target.

Strong: twin healing slashes; the recast knocks up. Weak: Grievous cuts the heal; the knock-up recast telegraphs.

• W
  Dreaded Return

Zaahen stabs in a direction, damaging enemies hit, then pulls them toward him.

Strong: a stab that PULLS you into his melee world. Weak: a narrow line — strafe it and keep the kite.

• E
  Aureate Rush

Zaahen dashes to a location and slices around himself.

Strong: a dash-slice for gap-closing and weaving. Weak: modest range — his only true mobility; count its cooldown.

• R
  Grim Deliverance

Zaahen rises then stabs downward, damaging enemies and healing for a portion of the damage dealt.

Strong: a rising slam with heavy damage and self-healing. Weak: the leap telegraphs the landing — sidestep and anti-heal the payoff.

Itemization

Grievous always, short trades only, and hold your execute until the revive is spent.
