Darius counters (Top)

Common role: Top

The best counter to Darius in Top is Yorick: 54.6% win rate over 1,269 ranked games on patch 26.21.

A juggernaut who wins any extended melee trade and executes with his ultimate.

What makes Darius dangerous

Darius pulls you in with his E, hits the outer edge of his Q for healing and big damage, and stacks his passive bleed to five for massive true damage. His ultimate (Noxian Guillotine) executes low-health targets and resets on a kill, letting him snowball fights.

How to counter Darius

• 1Stay out of his E pull range and never fight in the outer ring of his Q — step in close or move out so he only gets the weak inner hit.
• 2Don't take extended trades. Poke him and disengage before he stacks his bleed — the longer the fight, the more he wins.
• 3He's slow and immobile. Kite him with movement, slows, and ranged damage; if you can't disengage, he'll grind you down.
• 4Respect his ultimate reset. Don't dive him at low health — his Guillotine executes and refreshes, turning a 1v1 into a kill streak.

What are Darius's weaknesses?

• ✓No mobility — kiteable and easy to disengage from.
• ✓Weak against ranged poke and sustain.
• ✓Falls off if the game goes very late vs scaling carries.
• ✓His pull and Q are on cooldowns you can bait out.

Abilities & how to counter them

What each of Darius's abilities does — and how to play around it.

• P
  Hemorrhage

Darius' attacks and damaging abilities cause enemies to bleed for physical damage over 5 seconds, stacking up to 5 times. Darius enrages and gains massive Attack Damage when his target reaches max stacks.

Strong: bleed stacks to 5 for massive true damage in long fights. Weak: falls off in short trades — poke and disengage before he stacks it.

• Q
  Decimate

Darius winds up and swings his axe in a wide circle. Enemies struck by the blade take more damage than those struck by the handle. Darius heals based on enemy champions and large monsters hit by the blade.

Strong: the outer edge heals him and hits hard. Weak: the inner circle is weak — step in close so he only gets the weak hit.

• W
  Crippling Strike

Darius's next attack strikes an enemy's crucial artery. As they bleed out, their Move Speed is slowed.

• E
  Apprehend

Darius hones his axe, passively causing his physical damage to ignore a percentage of his target's Armor. When activated, Darius sweeps up his enemies with his axe's hook and pulls them to him.

Strong: pulls you into range for his combo. Weak: on cooldown he can't engage — bait the pull, then trade freely.

• R
  Noxian Guillotine

Darius leaps to an enemy champion and strikes a lethal blow, dealing true damage. This damage is increased for each stack of Hemorrhage on the target. If Noxian Guillotine is a killing blow, its cooldown is refreshed for a brief duration.

Strong: true-damage execute that resets on kills, snowballing fights. Weak: has a health threshold — stay above it and don't dive him low.

Itemization

Darius is AD with heavy healing from his Q. Grievous Wounds (Bramble Vest, Thornmail, Executioner's) cuts his sustain; stack armor and buy movement/tenacity so his pull-into-kill combo can't lock you down.
