What makes Garen dangerous

Garen closes with his Q (which silences and speeds him up), spins with his E for sustained damage and armor shred, and executes low-health targets with his ultimate's true damage. His passive regenerates health out of combat, making him hard to poke down.

How to play against Garen

• 1Don't fight into his Q silence if you rely on abilities — bait it out, then trade while it's on cooldown.
• 2Kite his spin (E): step out of melee range and his damage falls off a cliff. He has no gap-closer beyond his Q speed boost.
• 3Poke him under his passive regen threshold repeatedly with ranged damage to deny his free sustain before all-ins.
• 4His ultimate is a true-damage execute — don't sit at low health near him, and buy defensive stats to raise the execute threshold out of his reach.

  Perseverance

  If Garen has not recently been struck by damage or enemy abilities, he regenerates a percentage of his total health each second.

  Strong: out-of-combat health regen makes him hard to poke down. Weak: sustained ranged poke resets it — chip him before all-ins.

  Decisive Strike

  Garen gains a burst of Move Speed, breaking free of all slows affecting him. His next attack strikes a vital area of his foe, dealing bonus damage and silencing them.

  Strong: silences and speeds him up to engage. Weak: bait the silence if you rely on abilities, then trade while it's on cooldown.

  Courage

  Garen passively increases his Armor and Magic Resist by killing enemies. He may also activate this ability to give him a shield and tenacity for a brief moment followed by a lesser amount of damage reduction for a longer duration.

  Judgment

  Garen rapidly spins his sword around his body, dealing physical damage to nearby enemies.

  Demacian Justice

  Garen calls upon the might of Demacia to attempt to execute an enemy champion.

  Strong: a true-damage execute that ignores armor. Weak: it scales on missing health — buy HP/defenses to push the threshold out of his reach.
