What makes Riven dangerous

Riven chains three Q dashes, a shield-dash (E) and a knock-up (W) to weave in and out of trades, then her ultimate empowers her damage and gives a long-range execute. She is combo-reliant and snowballs hard, but has no sustain and burns her mobility on every trade.

How to play against Riven

• 1Trade when her abilities are on cooldown. After she uses her Q3 and E to engage, she's a plain melee with no mobility for a few seconds — punish that window.
• 2Respect her stun (W) — it's the setup for her burst. Don't stand point-blank when her W is up; make her use it to engage, then all-in.
• 3She has zero healing. Sustained poke and a Doran's/second-wind setup beats her lane — chip her down and she can't recover.
• 4Her ultimate is a burst window with an execute — don't sit at low health in her range, and buy an item spike before her power timings.

  Broken Wings

  Riven lashes out in a series of strikes. This ability can be reactivated three times in a short time frame with the third hit knocking back nearby enemies.

  Strong: three dashes for mobility, damage and repositioning. Weak: after the third dash she's a plain melee for a moment — punish that window.

  Ki Burst

  Riven emits a Ki Burst, damaging and stunning nearby enemies.

  Strong: a short AoE stun that sets up her burst. Weak: point-blank range — make her use it to engage, then all-in when it's down.

  Valor

  Riven steps forward a short distance and blocks incoming damage.

  Blade of the Exile

  Riven empowers her keepsake weapon with energy, and gains Attack Damage and Range. During this time, she also gains the ability to use Wind Slash, a powerful ranged attack, once.
