Viego counters (Jungle)

Common role: Jungle

The best counter to Viego in Jungle is Bel'Veth: 55.7% win rate over 1,352 ranked games on patch 26.21.

A reset skirmisher who possesses the champions he kills to chain-fight.

What makes Viego dangerous

When Viego kills a champion (or gets an assist on a marked target), he possesses their corpse — gaining their abilities, healing, and a free burst — then resets. In a teamfight one kill can spiral into a wipe. He dashes and stuns with his Q-marked hits and dives with his ultimate onto low-health targets.

How to counter Viego

• 1Don't feed his resets: never let him get the first kill in a fight cheaply. Peel and burst him before he possesses an ally and snowballs the fight.
• 2Focus him during his possession window — the possessed body has low health and expires. Killing him ends the chain.
• 3Respect his ult: it dashes onto and executes a low-health target for a guaranteed reset. Don't sit at low HP in his range.
• 4Grievous Wounds cuts the healing he gets from possessing and from his passive. Anti-heal makes his dives far riskier.

What are Viego's weaknesses?

• ✓No resets means no snowball — deny the first kill.
• ✓Possessed body is low-health and time-limited.
• ✓Squishy skirmisher; hard CC and burst punish him.
• ✓Healing cut by Grievous Wounds.

Abilities & how to counter them

What each of Viego's abilities does — and how to play around it.

• P
  Sovereign's Domination

Enemies who fall before Viego become wraiths. By attacking a wraith, Viego temporarily seizes control of the dead enemy's body, healing for a percentage of his target's max health and gaining access to their basic abilities and items. He replaces their Ultimate with a free cast of his own.

Strong: possesses champions he kills, gaining their kit, healing and a reset. Weak: deny him the first kill and focus the possessed body — it's low-health and expires.

• Q
  Blade of the Ruined King

Viego's spectral blade passively deals bonus percent current Health damage On-Hit and strikes twice vs. enemies he recently hit with an Ability, stealing Health.Viego can activate this Ability to thrust his zweihander forward, impaling enemies in front of him.

• W
  Spectral Maw

Viego charges up before dashing forward, releasing a ball of concentrated Black Mist that stuns the first enemy hit.

• E
  Harrowed Path

Viego commands the Black Mist to haunt and surround a piece of terrain. Viego can hide in the Mist as a wraith, gaining camouflage, Move Speed, and Attack Speed.

• R
  Heartbreaker

Viego teleports to a nearby location and executes an enemy champion on arrival, piercing their heart and causing a destructive shockwave around them that knocks away their allies.

Strong: dashes onto and executes a low-health target for a guaranteed reset. Weak: don't sit at low HP in his range, and Grievous Wounds cuts his healing.

Itemization

Viego is AD with reset-fueled healing. Grievous Wounds cuts his sustain, armor and hard CC punish his dives, and the key is denying him the kills that fuel his resets. Peel your carries so he can't chain a fight.
